Physical Exam is one of the most important components of any health checkup. It involves a typical 'Tail to Toe' examination of the pet to ascertain any existing ailments/signs of ailments. A comprehensive health checkup should include the following components: 1. Initial Observation (General appearance, Body condition-BCS, Mentation, Posture and Gait, Hydration Status) 2. Vital Signs (Weight, Temperature, Pulse, Respiratory rate and character, Profusion Indicators) 3. Head and Neck (Eyes, Nose and nares, Oral Cavity, Ears, Submandibular Lymph Nodes, Salivary Glands, Larynx and Thyroid Glands, Trachea, Thorax) 4. Trunk and Limbs (Joints, Feet, Nails and Hooves, Muscle mass and tone, Skin and Haircoat, Pelvic Region, Vertebral Column, Peripheral Lymph Nodes) 5. Thorax (Thorax and Cardiac Auscultation) 6. Respiratory Auscultation (Rate, Depth, Character, Signs of distress) 7. Abdomen (Auscultation, Palpation) 8. External Genitalia and Perineum
Pet (dog and cat) vaccines are generally divided into two types: Core (compulsory) and Non-Core (non-compulsory). Normally, the vaccines against highly contagious and very often deadly diseases such as rabies, canine distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis are considered as core. Nevertheless, keeping in mind the conditions of the Indian subcontinent, our veterinarians recommend the following vaccines: 1. Rabies 2. Canine Distemper 3. Parvovirus 4. Hepatitis 5. Adenovirus 6. Corona virus 7. Lyme Disease 8. Leptospirosis All of these diseases are covered by the 7in1 and Antirabies annual vaccines which are included into our Petzz healthcare plans
The interval for vaccination can be quite subjective and depends upon the environment and the ecosystem of the place. In general, most of the vaccines require an interval of 1 year. The anti-rabies vaccine however can have a vaccination interval of up to 3 years in colder regions. Our veterinarians recommend a core vaccination interval of 1 year for all locations in India
Deworming is the process of feeding anthelmintic medication to your pet in order to take care of intestinal worms or parasites. Our pets usually sniff their surroundings or other animals they come into contact with, and very often they may lick or eat contaminated things. This is how they ingest the parasite eggs that further develop in their gastrointestinal tract. Several of these worms can lead to life threatening situations and hence their periodic removal is essential. Deworming is very important given that we don't often have a complete control over what our pet consumes outside the house. Medication is usually administered quarterly in form of tablets and the amount of medication depends on the weight of the pet.
The fecal exam normally accompanies deworming and it is carried out to ascertain the presence of intestinal parasites. Pets infested with parasites may require stronger medication. Typical parasites our veterinarians look for during fecal examination include: roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm
One blood test a year is highly recommended to keep your pet’s health under control. A routine blood test checks the parameters for liver and kidney functions, and also sugar and cholesterol levels, to make sure your pet is in perfect health. The blood sample can be taken by our veterinary expert at your home or at a designated partner clinic
Diagnostic testing includes procedures such as X-ray, ultrasound or ECG that can evaluate tissues, organs and bones to allow the veterinarian to access any potential health concerns. These procedures are recommended either when your pet’s health is not optimal, but the animal doesn’t show any visible signs of illness or for in-depth assessment of a pre-existing illness that needs to be kept under control. These procedures will be performed as recommended by our veterinarian at a designated partner clinic.
